As far as love declarations go, it’s pretty sweet and romantic and leads to the two finally spending their first night together. Theresa «Tessa» Gray is a half-demon half-Shadowhunter warlock who is descended from the Starkweather family and the ancestor of the Herondale family. She is the main protagonist of The Infernal Devices series, a distant prequel series of The Mortal Instruments series set during the Victorian era London. She was married to Will Herondale until his mortal death 60 years post-marriage, after which Tessa became a recluse living in the Spiral Labyrinth. When Brother Zachariah is cured by Jace’s heavenly fire, he reverts to Tessa’s old lover, Jem Carstairs, now a mortal and dispelled of any needs of his yin fen medication to which he had needed to live. The two happily marry sometime after Jocelyn and Luke’s wedding, attended by the ghosts of Will Herondale and Jessamine Lovelace.

In City of Fallen Angels he is awoken, and uses a rune put on Jace to control him. FamilyValentine is the former husband of Jocelyn Fairchild, with whom he had two children (Clarissa «Clary» Adele Morgenstern and Jonathan Christopher Morgenstern). Clarissa realizes that she is Valentine’s daughter in the first book, City of Bones, but being raised by Jocelyn her whole life is void of Valentine’s influence. His son however, was tutored by him to be a very talented Shadowhunter and ruthless killer. He later becomes Valentine’s spy, taking the name Sebastian Verlac.

City of Glass reveals more about Valentine’s background. It is shown that he was once a famous painter who had many followers before he became obsessed with creating demons. This leads him to sacrifice many people in order to keep doing what he loves most — painting. Finally, he traps the love of his life, Alice, in a mirror world where there is no pain or death. Only love can break the mirror barrier so she tries to escape but cannot find a way out. She commits suicide by jumping into the mirror lake but dies happily ever after because she went down fighting with her true love by her side.

Valentine, under the influence of the Sword, admitted to Jace that he was not his son. After a brief scuffle, he was knocked out and taken into the Institute’s custody. During the early days of the Nickelodeon series, fans were convinced that the actor had a thing with his costarRiele Downs. But, they’ve since shut down romance rumors and have stayed close as friends — just like their characters Henry and Charlotte, who fans “shipped” throughout the show. Probably because they fell in love before they thought they were siblings, whereas Sebastian is trying to get with her after she knows that he’s her brother. In Jace’s case, the romantic feelings came first so she felt the sibling relationship was wrong, but with Sebastian she knew they were siblings before they got too close so the romantic relationship feels wrong.
