If you haven’t learned this yet, I doubt any of your spontaneous friends are married. It advertises itself as a new kind of dating website, where biblically-living men and women can match, meet, then get on their way to being fruitful and multiplying. Christian singles tired of traditional online dating may soon have a new option. If you think sites like Tinder and Bumble don’t have enough focus on the patriarchy, then Dominion Dating may be for you.

They hold to a simple view of sex outside of marriage, rooted in many centuries of historical teaching and what appear to be the plain teachings of the Bible, especially the New Testament—don’t. Even if your child is not dating, she can still become emotionally attached to a boy over the phone. Teens begin to share their feelings, their disappointments, their hopes, their troubles at home, and pretty soon they feel attached.

Hinge actually coined the term Fear of Dating Again to encompass people’s uneasiness to get back into the dating scene. Many feel like they have lost their game during isolation, and there’s a hump that many online daters still need to get over. Time feels more valuable, and even those who are DTF may be more closely considering the authenticity and personality of prospects.

Plus, using filters is completely free, which is a nice perk when you’re trying to find someone to get down with, even if you’re not looking for anything serious. Of course, you should still be smart about meeting up with basically anonymous strangers, but for no-strings attachment, Pure is a pretty good place to be. Your uploaded selfies, personal info, and conversations with others self-destruct every 60 minutes, promoting spur-of-the-moment and borderline anonymous hookups. There aren’t even any profiles — it’s just a feed of personal ads that let you get directly to the point of what you’re looking for.

A year after Hot and Holy’s first event, two laywomen launched another Catholic speed dating effort near Phoenix. There is a way and a foundation from which to do this much-needed ministry. It’s been my experience that believers who know how much they’ve been forgiven and what it cost God to forgive them are the people who most seek out those who struggle.

Biblical Counseling Resources on Singleness, Dating, & Pre-Engagement

In some situations, victims ended up reporting abuse to priests who were abusive themselves, prosecutors wrote. “We have people coming from different parishes and different (Catholic) rites. … We want people to meet from different walks of life,” Hansen told OSV News. “I’d never been to a speed dating event; I had no experience with speed dating, so it must have been the Holy Spirit,” Kimberly McCarthy told OSV News.

So here I am, encouraging my fellow pastors to make sure—-even if you’re no longer serving in youth, university, or young adult ministry—-to keep your sex talk fresh, handy, and well thought out. So, when you feel lonely or discouraged in your singleness, remember that if you’re saved, you’re sent. Instead of waiting until your wedding day to get about the work, make the most of this not-yet-married life. Instead of making it your mission to get married, make your mission God’s global cause and the advance of the gospel where you are, and look for someone pursuing the same. If you’re hoping to marry someone who passionately loves Jesus and makes him known, it’s probably best to put yourself in a community of people committed to that. The longer you’re not-yet-married, the more time you have to learn about marriage from other people’s successes and failures.

Do radical, time-consuming things for God.

Contemporary dating relationships are too often a means to snack, softening the sexual hunger that God has designed in us yet can only be satisfied in the holistic context of marriage. Singles come from all ages, backgrounds, and lifestyles. Once you know who your community is, only then can you reach them, and they are more single than ever before. We don’t need to build programs and ministries to reach singles, you need to reach people. We need a church culture that is single friendly and we would love to partner with you. What if you stopped looking for a “soul mate” and started looking for a “sole mate”—someone who will live out with you the great purpose of God?

Healthy, loving relationships thrive on good communication. You could be straightforward without fear of being rejected or misunderstood. But maintaining a healthy relationship in today’s highly digital and secular age is more difficult than it has ever been. So many people are scared of commitment and being official that they’ll remain in a label-free relationship, which blurs lines and only works until it doesn’t. “We’re just talking” is a phrase that opens the door for cheating that technically wasn’t cheating because you weren’t together together. Unfortunately, we all have to deal with these ugly truths.

While marriage used to be a passage into adulthood, today, it’s a mark you’ve already achieved it

When we do talk about sex in church, why do we do so most often on a surface level without giving opportunity for deep conversation? Why do hot topics like abortion and homosexuality so polarize us that we cannot coexist in the love Jesus modeled – at the expense of our care for one another? Difficult questions for us that deserve, at the least, conversation, if not thoughtful answers. The Scriptural story, however, also includes the sad chapter of the fracturing of human desire in the Fall, resulting in behaviors that elevate self-sovereignty, damage and objectify the other, and darken the path of human desire. As fallen beings, we have experienced this evil on every level—personal and corporate. The principalities and powers of a fallen world have saturated us with lies about our sexuality.

Of nearly 100 people surveyed, only 11% reported a move towards heterosexuality. It was conducted by Mark Yarhouse, a psychology professor at Pat Robertson’s Regents University, and Stanton Jones, provost of Wheaton College, an evangelical institution in Illinois. The study was conducted through face-to-face and some phone interviews conducted annually over the course of four years. Just this September, Texas ex-gay therapist Chris Austin was convicted of two counts of felony sexual assault on a patient and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

They were ordered to drive straight to and from work without speaking to strangers. This not only opens the space for major confusion, but also opens the floor for cheating. In this dating scenario, one person may be on one page about the relationship, and another person may be on a completely different one. A committed relationship requires two people to be intentional about making things work. If you’re in a relationship and you feel like it’s not going anywhere, you may be stuck in a modern dating trap. The report largely focuses on the years before 2002, when an investigation by the Boston Globe into abuse and coverup in the Archdiocese of Boston led to an explosion of revelations nationwide.
